- Vivo has shared the first look at its next foldable smartphone.
- Vivo X Fold 2 and X Flip will be launched on April 20 in China.
- Along with the foldable devices, the company is also launching its next tablet, the Vivo Pad 2.
Vivo is the next major player to take on Samsung’s foldable devices this year. While the company has already owned the X Fold since last year, it’s preparing to launch its successor, the X Fold 2, alongside its first clamshell foldable phone, the X Flip. The latter phone will take on the likes of the Galaxy Z Flip 4, Motorola Razr, and OPPO Find N2 Flip.
The company announced the upcoming foldable phones from Vivo on April 20 through its official handle on Chinese micro-blogging site Weibo. Along with the announcement, the company gave its first look at the next-generation Vivo X Fold 2 and the X Flip, the company’s first clamshell foldable phone. Besides foldable devices, Vivo also unveiled Pad 2, which will be the latest entry into the Android tablet market.
Going by the images shown, the X Fold 2 will look very similar to the first generation Vivo X Fold. However, there is a slight change to the camera module on the back. The X Fold had a circular camera island surrounded by a large rectangular compartment. Instead, the X Fold 2 will stick with a circular cover that holds three sensors, an LED flash, and the iconic “ZEISS” branding. This design will also carry over to the X Flip.
The Vivo X Flip may be the one that catches the eye across the industry as it is the first clamshell phone from the company to compete with some of the most popular phones in the segment, including the Galaxy Z Flip 4 and OPPO Find N2 Flip. The first look indicates a relatively large foldable display that stands out and makes the phone look taller than the competition. When in the folded state, the X Flip has a significantly larger cover display that includes some fun features like having an interactive cat character that responds to an alert or notification alert, for example.
Aside from the cover display, the foldable phone also includes a circular camera island very similar to the X Fold 2. However, instead of three cameras, the X Flip only has two cameras, which are also powered by ZEISS. The power button on the X Flip will likely act as the fingerprint sensor for authentication.
Another interesting product that we will witness during the launch is the Vivo Pad 2, which is the successor to the Vivo Pad. It also comes with relatively the same design as the predecessor, but it will also opt for a similar camera module as the one the Folds are getting this year.

Apart from the design, aesthetics, and launch date, Vivo has revealed some other specifications. The X Fold 2 features a 2K foldable display with a 120Hz refresh rate. It has a 4nm chipset running it, which your trusted digital chat station expects to be the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC. The device also features 120W ultra-fast wired charging, which can be paired with 50W wireless charging.
On the other hand, the X Flip may be powered by the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC coupled with 44W fast charging and dual cameras featuring an IMX866 50MP sensor. Finally, the Pad 2 will launch with a MediaTek Dimensity 9000 processor and is likely to sport a 2.8K LCD display with a 144Hz refresh rate.
In general, it’s nice to see more OEMs releasing foldable phones, a form factor that Samsung has largely dominated. We are looking forward to Vivo’s next big launch and hope to get our hands on some of these devices.
