What you need to know
- YouTube Music has started rolling out lyrics in real time.
- The Lyrics tab will display larger text that automatically stands out and scrolls while the song is playing.
- The feature is currently being rolled out, though it is not widely available at this time.
YouTube Music might be one of our favorite music streaming platforms, but the app often lags behind others when it comes to adopting certain features. And while still lyrics are already available on the service, YouTube Music users are finally starting to receive lyrics in real time.
Some Reddit users have revealed what the feature will look like when it rolls out to their devices. Compared to YouTube Music’s default static lyrics, this new iteration is bolder, and the lyrics appear to scroll and highlight automatically as the song plays.

Oddly enough, the feature started arriving without an official announcement from YouTube, though it still could come as more people receive it.
This feature doesn’t look much different from what we’ve seen on other platforms like Spotify, which published real-time lyrics globally in 2021. YouTube Music was a little late to the party, though it was spotted testing a form of real-time lyrics late in the year. the past. However, it is good to see that it finally reaches the users.
The obvious benefit of real-time lyrics is that you don’t have to do any work. Instead of having to swipe and squint to read rather small font, the app will now scroll for you with easier-to-read text. It is more ideal for users who want to sing along or have impromptu karaoke sessions.
This isn’t the only change YouTube Music has seen recently. Along with a new filter for podcasts, YouTube Music has begun testing a new grid layout for the library which is also starting to show up for some.
As for real-time lyrics, the feature appears to be appearing on the YouTube Music version 5.51.50. It’s likely to be a server-side change, as many on Reddit have indicated that they don’t see change yet. Many of my devices are not receiving realtime yet even though they are on the latest version of the app.
