TL; DR
- Pixel Search is a third party launcher that mimics Pixel Launcher.
- The app offers some options not found in Pixel Launcher.
- Pixel Search allows you to get the full Pixel Launcher experience on almost any Android device.
Among all the third party apps, there are plenty of launchers to choose from. However, these launchers don’t quite offer the experience offered by Google’s Pixel Launcher. The only problem is that Pixel launcher is exclusive to Pixel devices. But a new app aims to change that.
A new app called Pixel Search was recently launched in the Google Play Store. first spotted Mishaal Rahman, the app is the latest creation from Rushikesh Kamewar – known for apps like Pinned Shortcuts, Privacy Dashboard and One Click Lock Screen. This newly launched app is designed to mimic the Pixel Launcher’s search experience so that other Android users can also enjoy this feature.
When you install this app, you can start Pixel Search by tapping on the icon or using the Material You-themed widget. The tool also provides shortcuts to Google Discover and Google Voice search.
What you will see is the Pixel Launcher-like user interface, which is supposed to help users get started. You’ll be greeted by the search screen, which has the search bar at the top and a row of suggestions directly below it. In addition, there is a list of other search engines within the application. However, this app offers some options that you won’t find in the original experience, including Netflix, Twitter, Bing, and Spotify.
Pixel Search also allows users to set their preferences. Going to the three vertical dots, you can change the theme, choose the apps you want to use to search, and launch results for individual app shortcuts. It is also possible to launch individual result groups including web search, contacts, apps, in-app shortcuts, and files. The unique thing about Pixel Search is the ability to choose the quick launch option that automatically opens the first result.
The only thing the app can’t do is search for system settings. But it looks like the developer is looking into adding this feature.
Unlike the developer’s Search Widget, Pixel Search is free to download. If you’d like to try it out for yourself, just follow the link here.
