The dead speak! Three times, in fact. in Star Wars Celebration 2023Three deceased Star Wars villains have returned from the dead (and on Easter Sunday no less) to chat about their experiences playing bad guys in a galaxy far, far away. There was Gwendolyn Christie who played Captain Facima, Andy Serkis who played Supreme Leader Snoke and the worst of them all, Ian McDiarmid Who played Darth Sidious / Emperor Palpatine /find ri.
“Every time it happened, I didn’t know it was going to happen,” McDermid said. He was referring to getting the job 40 years ago Return of the JediThen get the call to return as Senator Palpatine Phantom Minacke., the fact that he didn’t know Palpatine was also Darth Sidious until his first day of shooting and then, of course, “surprise of all surprises. It didn’t go away,” as he revealed in Celestial Rise.
“He had a plan B,” McDiamred said.. And Plan B was downstairs in the bowels of Exegol with this very advanced science team slowly giving him life. And they were doing most of the work…they made a lot of Snokes before they got to this clone that became Snoke…and I was shocked to learn when I arrived, that I was responsible for him, and indeed, every direct or direct evil act in the whole story, was my fault.”
Hearing MacDamedred talk about Palpatine’s plan was like fully rediscovering the plan for the first time. You could tell he really understood Palpatine’s “Plan B”, but at the same time, he realized that it was completely ridiculous and ridiculous. He even goes so far as to say “Maybe I’m dead, but who knows?”

Andy Serkis had the same idea. Tell a story about his sudden discovery that Snoke is going to be killed by Kylo Ren in last jedi. He followed that up, half jokingly and half not, by promoting the Snoke spinoff series. He told the fans, “Lucasfilm owes me and Kathleen Kennedy is listening to you.”
On the subject of Snoke, Serkis also admitted that who exactly Snoke was – a clone of Palpatine – wasn’t something he knew right away. He was aware that there was some connection to the character but described discovering this as an “organic process” in writing and producing films.
Christy also provided a great insight into her character, including why she believed Facima hated Finn so much. Christie said: “She fancies him, perhaps a pent-up lust, a coveted idea of envy of one who has freed himself from the confines of order and custom.”
Overall, the Villains of the Sequel Trilogy panel was a great way to shed light on some characters who either haven’t had enough time to spread their wings, or have been given too much.
