Google Pixel 6a was an amazing device with an excellent camera setup powered by the powerful Google Tensor G1 chipset and great battery life. It was one of the best camera smartphones in its price range and it blew others from the middle class out of the water with its excellent capabilities.
However, despite the praise, there is a lot that could be improved about the device, and if the rumors are true, the next generation Google Pixel 7a could rectify most of the things we have on our wish list. Here’s everything we know so far about the upcoming Google Pixel 7a, including price, availability, specs, colors, design, and more.
Pixel 7a: Price and availability
We have yet to hear any pricing and official information about the upcoming Google Pixel 7a. However, we can at least try to speculate and take some educated guesses about price and availability. Based on the fact that Google kept the price the same for the Pixel 7 series, we don’t expect the company to raise the price of its less expensive devices this year. We hope to see the Pixel 7a arrive at the same $449 price tag as last year’s model.
In terms of availability, Google often releases its A-series devices between July and August, and we expect to see a similar schedule in 2023. Google has announced that it will hold its Google I/O 2023 event on May 10, and there is also a chance we could see a Pixel phone. 7a next in the event.

Google Pixel 6a was launched in three colours, Sage (green), Chalk (silver/white), and Charcoal (black). The Pixel 7a is rumored to come in the same silver/white and black colors and an additional Light Blue option, potentially marking it as the promotional and special color for this year’s device.

In typical Google fashion, we expect the Google Pixel 7a to have an almost identical design to the flagship Google Pixel 7 series. We expect the Pixel 7a to keep the same large bezels and the same camera strip on the back, giving it an iconic Pixel look. The device will likely be made of plastic to help keep costs down.
In terms of layout and features, we expect the Pixel 7a to have a lot in common with the Pixel 6a. The power button and speaker will be located on the right side, and the bottom will house the speaker, microphone and USB-C port. The left side will only have the SIM card slot.

One of the biggest complaints about the Pixel 6a was the screen. It wasn’t because it wasn’t bright enough, or because of the panel I used, but because it was stuck at a 60Hz refresh rate. Fortunately, Google seems to be listening to the feedback, and early rumors claim that we may see a 1080p display with a 90Hz refresh rate on the upcoming Pixel 7a. It will make the Pixel 7a the first device in the A-series to sport a higher refresh rate display panel, and we can only hope this turns out to be true.
As for screen size and technology, we’re expecting the same 6.1-inch OLED panel with a 1080 x 2400 resolution and 20:9 aspect ratio. The bezels will likely stick around for longer, and we expect to see the same central punch-hole cutout at the top for the front-facing camera.

According to a report from 9to5GoogleThe Pixel 7a could have the same camera sensors as the Google Pixel 6. The report claims that the new A-series device could have a 50MP sensor, a Sony IMX712 with a 13MP ultrawide lens. This same sensor was previously used in the Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro series, and if this holds true, Pixel-A users may be in for a welcome upgrade.
Let’s say the rumors are true and the Pixel 7a comes with new Pixel 6 series sensors, camera, and the image quality could receive a huge upgrade compared to the already amazing Pixel 6a from 2022. It should be noted that 9to5Google The report also claimed that the phone received an additional telephoto lens. However, based on real live photos and renders we’ve seen previously, we’d recommend taking this information with a heavy grain of salt.

The battery is still unknown for the Pixel 7a, but we’re expecting a cell roughly the same size as the one in the Pixel 6a. Some rumors claim that we could see the arrival of wireless charging, which marks the first time that an A-series device has received this feature. Some reports also claim that the Pixel 7a could receive a 5W reverse wireless charging feature, allowing users to wirelessly charge their Google Pixel Buds on the go.
Unfortunately, we don’t know if we’ll see faster charging technology this year. However, we hope to see improvements in speed, as the Pixel 6a only supported 18W at launch, which is somewhat outdated and slow at this point, when compared to the competition. Even the new Samsung Galaxy A54 5G supports 25W wired charging, and while that is also considered slow, 18W is no longer relevant in the world where 33-65W fast charging has become the norm.
What we want to see
Screen with a refresh rate of 90 Hz
The Pixel 6a was an excellent device with a beautiful screen, but one of our biggest complaints was the lack of a high refresh rate display that supported at least 90Hz. 60Hz is still the norm on budget devices, and while the Pixel 7a will be priced in a similar range, hopefully we’ll see Google finally deliver a screen that’s competitive with devices in the same category.
Fast charging and wireless charging
Google has never been known for its fast charging technology, and the company has never included wireless charging in its affordable Pixel A series devices. However, there is a high possibility that we will see the arrival of wireless charging at least in 2023. The new addition will make the Pixel 7a the first phone in the A series to feature this technology, and it can make it easier for users to charge their phones. devices without having to fight with cables.

Google Pixel 6a was an excellent device.
