In Margarita Magnuson’s book The gentle art of Swedish dying cleaning(Opens in a new tab)Readers are offered transformative tips based on the Swedish phenomenon of getting your affairs in order before time runs out.

Peacock’s new series of the same name explores these concepts. Across eight episodes, the series features eight different people at different stages in life, each embarking on a quest for reinvention. Three Swedish “death cleaners” – Katarina Blom, Elinor Engström and Johan Svensson – come to America to help them on this journey, reversing tasks and roles à la Marie Kondo or Queer Eye. There is a designer, an arranger, and a psychologist, each helping their subject celebrate life as new chapters begin. Interspersed are emotional stories about life, death, and memories, as told by Executive Producer Amy Poehler.
