
The PC market sent a disappointing quarter, with global shipments shrinking 29% year over year according to the latest IDC a report. Based on preliminary data, the number of PCs sold in January-March totaled 56.9 million units, which is 23.3 million units less than the total in the first quarter of 2022. All of the top five PC vendors are experiencing double-digit declines with an underperformance Apple for the worst, with a difference of 40.5% between the first quarter of 2022 and the first quarter of 2023.

Lenovo maintained its global lead in total shipments at 12.7 million units and a market share of 22.4%. “HP” came in second place with 12 million shipments and a market share of 15.8%, while “Dell” came in third place with 9.5 million shipments, or 13.7% of the market. Apple ranked fourth with 4.1 million shipments and a 7.2% market share, while Asus ranked fifth with 3.9 million shipments and a 6.8% market share.

The recent PC slump was caused by continued weak consumer demand, excess inventory, and an unstable economic market. The coming months aren’t looking good for PC vendors, with IDC experts predicting a return to growth by the end of this year.
