15 British TV shows we’re excited about in 2023
Maybe 2023 will be the year of Daisy May Cooper. Having already achieved huge success in the UK with its quirky parody this countryNew Cooper Show Am I unreasonable? (created with co-star Celine Haisley) takes her comedic experience and fuses it with drama, mystery, and a touch of horror.
The end result is an odd mix of genres that come together to make a wonderfully disturbing show about family, friendship, and mental health.
What is it Am I unreasonable? on?
Troubled and irrational mother Nick (Cooper) is stuck in a strained relationship with her husband Dan (Dustin Demre Burns), worried about the odd behavior of her son Ollie (Lenny Rush), and haunted by the tragic death of Alex (David Finn), a man she had an affair with. That’s a lot on its own, but then to make things more complicated is the sudden arrival of new mom Jane (Hazelie), with whom Nick instantly makes a connection — but is Jane who she seems to be at first?
Like we said when we included it Am I unreasonable? In our round-up of the best British shows last year, it could easily have gone wrong in different hands. But Cooper and Heasley expertly weave these lines together to form a messy picture of parenthood that’s just the right mix of recognizable absurdity, believable and psychologically twisted.
Like the main character’s mental state, the story is fractured at the beginning, and nothing seems to fit. As we slowly learn more about the characters and their true motivations, the pieces are coming together.

Am I unreasonable? He has a little bit of everything.
As mentioned above, Am I unreasonable? He juggles a lot of dishes. But it meshes so well with the script that weaves seamlessly between jokes and foreshadowing, heartfelt moments, as well as twists you wouldn’t expect. There are quite a few TV shows I’ve watched where I’ve laughed out loud and had a really creepy jump scare in the same episode, but this is the kind of story Am I unreasonable? Tells. It’s hard to say much without going into spoiler territory, and that’s something that’s best avoided on this show. What begins as a seemingly straightforward family tale is full of the unexpected.
completes all this representation; The entire cast is fantastic, from Lenny Rush’s precocious wit to the many masks Hazelly wears. Johnny Campbell’s direction lets the sharp dialogue work for itself while throwing occasional curveballs at us in the form of flashbacks.
