Discovery Plus and HBO Max will reportedly join forces to create just the 'Max'

Wireless

David Zaslav, CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery, has been planning to bring the two services together since WarnerMedia’s merger with Discovery last year, and now that time is closely approaching. The combined service will offload the eclectic range of Discovery Plus content, incl Deadliest catch, property brothersand (my personal favourite) Fiance 90 daysé in one pot with HBO’s most popular shows, such as The last of us And the white lotus.

Says sources close to the situation The New York Times The new “Max” service will provide multiple subscription levels with different price points. This includes an ad-free plan for $16 per month, which is the same price as the current ad-free HBO Max subscription, along with a cheaper ad-supported tier which I believe could cost $10 per month if it follows HBO Max pricing.

It’s hard for me to imagine HBO Max and Discovery Plus getting along so well together. Sure, it will have a huge scope of content from one hub, but it can be seen game of thrones next to Dr. Pimple Popper It will just… strange. I just hope Discovery Plus stays as a standalone service, since it’s much cheaper at $4.99 per month with ads and also has a lot of really stupid and weird offers that I’ll admit, sorry, enjoy watching.

Wednesday’s event isn’t expected to be as flashy as those we’ve seen in the past (such as Apple’s star-studded presentation in 2019). The company will reportedly lay out the service’s name and technology upgrades, as well as incorporate some movie and TV show advertisements during the hour-long event.

While Warner Bros. hopes. Discovery aims to reach 130 million subscribers across HBO, HBO Max, and Discovery Plus by 2025, it added 1.1 million subscribers just in the fourth quarter of 2022, bringing its total number of subscribers to 96.1 million globally. The company clearly expects Max to raise those prices, but it remains to be seen if it will actually attract new subscribers who don’t already have either service. Max is going to have to do something radical – whether it’s adding great content or more competitive pricing – if he wants to be known for more than just his non-fiction name.
