Microsoft Learn has many options for distance learning – and we’re expanding our catalog even more. We’re excited to announce our latest offering to help connect you to our Azure Learning community: Microsoft Learn rooms. Learning Rooms are an essential part of the Microsoft Learn community, designed to connect you with other learners and technical experts.

Whether you’re an established tech, looking to launch your career, or start a path, learning rooms open the door to a world of opportunity. The Learn community can help you grow your network, meet others in the field, explore topic-specific technologies in the real world, and hone your Microsoft Azure Cloud skills. With Learning Rooms, you can join peers and experts in your path to gain skills in Azure at your own pace in a safe and supportive environment – so you can advance your knowledge and advance your career in cloud computing.

What are learning rooms?

Learning Rooms is free and open to anyone looking for a connected, supportive, and engaging community learning experience. Designed for group learning and guided by a Learn expert, with asynchronous conversations and office hours, the focus in many learning rooms will be on Microsoft Azure. They bring together individuals with common learning interests – such as the Azure cloud – and unite them with community experts looking to support and guide learners on their journey and foster an engaging and supportive learning environment. They’re part of the Microsoft Learn Azure community, a broader space where learners from around the world can interact directly with technology experts and others who share your Azure interests.

Learning Rooms is also connected to the Microsoft Tech Community, a network of resources that support the Azure, Windows Server, and SQL Server interest groups. Within the tech community are smaller tech communities for specific topics, such as Azure Infrastructure, and you can visit these smaller forums and browse through all the learning rooms you’re connected to. Once you find the room you want, joining is easy – just request access using a sign-up form and accept the Learner Agreement. From there, you’ll be able to bring all of your Azure questions, at any time of the day, to your group pool that will guide you through it – giving you the classroom experience right at home. What will I learn?

Learning Rooms focus across many areas of technology. They include Microsoft Cloud and Azure topics such as Azure Infrastructure, Data and Artificial Intelligence, Digital Innovation and Applications, and their small footprint ensures that you get exactly the support you need. Each room is led by Microsoft Learn Experts, who are certified technical subject matter experts found across all of our community resources with expertise in technical skills, community support, and deep knowledge of the room’s specific subject area. Not everyone can just be an expert—they’re certified community leaders selected by invitation only, such as Microsoft Most Valuable Professionals (MVPs), Microsoft Certified Trainers (MCTs), and Microsoft Technical and Trainers (MTTs).

Besides providing one-on-one support, Microsoft Learn experts are also knowledgeable resources who can direct you to other programs that fit your skill set, such as the Microsoft Azure Connected Learning Experience (CLX), 30 Days to Learn, and Azure Skills Navigator guides. They can also give you study tips, advise you on learning best practices, and can invite other Microsoft leaders into a room to discuss even the most difficult technical topic areas in your learning path. Finally, experts can help you prepare for many Microsoft certification exams, ensuring you have the knowledge you need to exceed your career goals, wherever you are on your educational journey.

What’s going on in the room?

Once you join a room, you will be immersed in a lively discussion. You can post questions about complex or more direct topics, such as how to sign up for a virtual training day. If you’re preparing for a Microsoft certification exam, you can even use the room to prepare for study by crowdsourcing study guides and practice tests, learn about questions most likely to appear on an upcoming exam, or find out if you qualify for an exam discount. Whatever your needs, you’ll get answers from a peer, advocate, or invited Azure authority, giving you a myriad of thoughtful and diverse perspectives.

When you’re not posting something of your own, you can explore past threads from your peers to discover questions you may have never thought to ask. The latest and most popular topics will appear at the top of the room to make sure you’re always in the loop. You can also vote on questions and answers, which boosts the most helpful responses right at the top of the forum. If you’re feeling like a pro, you can even answer questions yourself – experts and other Azure authorities, whom you’ll recognize by their blue and green icons, will be there to validate your answers and support you every step of the way.
